Crosswind & Tailwind Endorsement Training

Do crosswind takeoffs and landings make you wobble?

Taught in the Citabria, the goal is to give you the ability to safely and competently handle extreme crosswind takeoffs and landings and to remain within the crosswind component published in the aircraft POH and at all time to be aware of the "spin zone".

On the ground, you will review the fundamentals of crabs, slips, transitions and the proper use of control surfaces to control the longitudinal axis of the airplane to keep it aligned with the center line of the runway (rudders) while controlling drift with the ailerons. The interface of the controls, cross control techniques and safety will be emphasized.

In the air, you will then receive refresher training in slips; you will be able to control the longitudinal axis of the airplane while flying low approaches over the runway and slipping from one side of the runway to the other; and you will master the ability to land the airplane straight ahead with no sideways motion in maximum crosswind conditions.

There will be approximately three hours of flight at the Marina Municipal Airport

The charge is at posted rates. Approximately $500.00

Tailwheel Endorsement

Adding a tailwheel endorsement to your skill set will improve your fundamental flying skills and will offer you the opportunity to expand your aviation options.

We offer a customized training program that is tailored to your personal training style and anticipated application of these new skills. We will train you in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations and will be structured to meet these requirements.

Flight training will include at least the following maneuvers and procedures:

  1. Normal and crosswind takeoffs and landings
  2. Wheel landings
  3. Go around procedures

The amount of time required for the successful completion of this course will vary from student to student but as a rule it is anticipated that it will require up to twenty hours with the norm being 10-15 hours. This is an estimate and not a guarantee of the time required. In addition, to flight time, there will be ground school to support the training.

The investment for this course will be at posted rates. Approximately $1575-$2500
